Greinke feels better than expected, but Royals scratch Davies ...

CHICAGO | The Royals plan to scratch a member of their rotation from his next start -- but it’s not Zack Greinke.</p><p> Not yet, anyway.</p><p> The scratch is right-hander Kyle Davies, who will skip his scheduled start Saturday against the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field because of a slight oblique problem.</p><p> Rookie left-hander Dusty Hughes will replace Davies as Saturday’s starter. Hughes was 3-1 with a 2.48 ERA in six August starts at Class AAA Omaha after pitching earlier in the season as a reliever.</p><p> Greinke said he felt better than expected Friday -- one day after being hit above the right elbow by a line drive off the bat of Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera. Greinke also cautioned that he has yet to test his arm by doing so much as playing catch.</p><p> “The training staff has done a great job with it -- so far,” Greinke said. “If they get me up for my start, it’s a great job.”</p><p> Greinke’s next scheduled start is Tuesday against Boston at Kauffman Stadium. The injury occurred in the fourth inning, but he was able to pitch through the fifth before exiting the game. He did not allow a run in the 9-2 victory.</p><p> Davies had won four straight games while allowing just four runs in 23 innings before his ailment surfaced. He doesn’t believe it’s serious.</p><p> “Nothing out of the ordinary,” Davies said. “It’s just stuff that happens in a long season.”</p><p> Hughes, 27, arrived Sept. 5 from Omaha when the Royals sought to replenish their bullpen after moving Robinson Tejeda to the rotation. He has allowed three runs and six hits in eight innings over three relief appearances.
